Respite Care Perth
Caring for yourself is as important as caring for your loved one, and sometimes we all need to take a break, attend appointments, conduct personal business or even taken a vacation. Respite care provides an organised, temporary break for both carers and the person they care for. We can provide respite care for planned breaks, regular weekly breaks, short holidays or emergencies.
How to Get Respite Care
If your loved one is currently receiving home care services on a home care package or as a veteran, we can look at different options for including respite as part of these programs. Whether they need low or high level, we can provide you the break you need, with the peace of mind your loved one is being cared for.
If this is the first time you are exploring options for care, you will need to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) to find out if you are eligible for Government-subsidised help at home respite services. Contact the My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or call us to help you through the process.
Our respite care plans are customised to each client, and we will work with you to design a program that you meets your needs and your budget.
Review the options below, and then let us know what type of program you think would suit you and your loved one.
Types of respite care
Respite care for a few hours
If you only need a few hours away, we can arrange someone to come to your home for as long as you need. They can be there to assist your loved one to get ready in the morning, prepare meals, or go on an outing. You might just need someone to come in and keep them company while you are away.
We can arrange this for you as a one-off service, in case of emergencies, or on a regular basis.
Respite care for a day
Need more than a few hours? We can be there for your loved one for the whole day.
We offer social and recreational activities for your loved one to participate either individually or in a group. This gives your loved one the opportunity to have a social experience and interact with others. We can come to your home, and provide assistance with bathing, dressing and getting ready to go out for the day. At the end of the day, we will provide assistance getting ready for bed.
That way, you can both have an enjoyable day, for as long as you need and know that they are being cared for the way that you would.
Overnight respite care in your home
We can arrange someone to stay overnight with your loved one to ensure that they have someone to assist them.
We will stay with them and ensure that they feel safe and secure.
Respite care for a weekend or more
If you need to be away from your loved one for a few days, then we can design a care program that is suitable for the level of support they need in the home.
This might be a combination of people coming in the morning and evening to assist them with their meals or certain tasks. It might even be just a welfare check once a day while you are gone, or a prompt to take their tablets. Tell us what would work for you both, and we can arrange a plan to meet your needs.
We can even book care for them the entire duration you are away if you would prefer.
Respite care in an aged care home
If you are going away for a longer period of time and your loved one needs 24-hour support, you might consider a short stay in an aged care home.
If they are already approved by the Government for respite, this is a very affordable option for you both to consider and will mean that they have company from other people in the home while you are away.
It can be difficult to find an aged care home with an available bed when needed, but we have access to beds at 14 different homes in the Perth area as well as Albany. We will work with any aged care home that you have in mind.
We can find a place for you at very short notice if needed, as sometimes you cannot plan for when care might be needed and that is where we can ease your stress.
Respite care through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme
If your loved one is waiting for their home care package to begin, there may still be options to help them receive the services they need. White Oak are authorised to provide support through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, which streamlines access to entry level services. This can make a real difference if you need a break for a few hours, a day, or a longer period of time. This is also an option to explore if emergency respite is needed at short notice.
Depending on your situation the program can also help fill the gap after your loved one’s interim hospital package ends, while they wait for their home care package to become available.
