What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a way of funding services and support for people with a disability. Eligible participants with a disability receive their own funding and NDIS plan to support them in having better value, more choice and greater control.
Am I eligible for the NDIS?
To be covered by the NDIS, you’ll need to:
- Be under the age of 65
- Have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities
- Be an Australian citizen, resident or permanent visa holder
A simple eligibility checklist is available here and our friendly team can help you navigate it if you find things overwhelming.
What type of services are funded by the NDIS?
The NDIS provides funding to eligible people based on their individual needs. The types of support may be included:
- Help with personal care and tasks associated with daily living
- Help with household tasks to allow you to remain in your home environment
- Assistance for you to participate in community, social and daily life activities
- Therapeutic support including behaviour support
- Mobility equipment
- Vehicle modifications
Do I need an NDIS plan or a Home Care Package?
There are many similarities between NDIS plans and Home Care Packages, but they have designed to meet different needs. Home Care Packages are essentially designed for older Australians, while in order to make a request for an NDIS plan, you need to be under the age of 65 and have a permanent disability.

What does the NDIS mean for me?
The NDIS provides funding based on your individual needs and there are many ways in which the NDIS can support you. The supports that are funded should help you overcome any disability-specific barriers that may be stopping you from pursuing your goals.
How far you pursue your goals is up to you. You might want to try a small step. Or you might want to aim for big changes and work towards something really challenging. Both are OK.
